Wheels of Time is pleased to announce our N scale 1937 Pullman Standard Southern Pacific Chair Cars (Classes 77-C-2 and 77-C-3) in kit form.  Wheels of Time’s 1937 Pullman Standard Southern Pacific Chair Cars are well researched and designed with the modeler in mind. These models represents the appearance in the late 1950s until the advent of Amtrak on CoSF and other train service. The highly detailed passenger car sides, roof and complete underframe/interior have tabs and slots, and pins and holes connections. This makes it easy to assemble and glue parts together using super glue. This Wheels of Time design completely eliminates the need to purchase a core kit. In addition, the kit includes a fully built miniature replica of the prototype underbody equipment, so you don’t need to guess where things might be located! The interior has the proper look for the reclining seats with arm rests instead of a chunk of plastic. The standard width diaphragms are patterned after Southern Pacific’s shops modification to the original full width diaphragms. We even included on the “B” end of the car, a Gyralight warning light which was S.P. practices for the end of the train operation. It’s like the real thing! The models are designed to be fitted with Kato truck-coupler assemblies. The result is that the modeler will receive a very highly accurate and detailed railroad specific passenger car with minimal work that you can be proud of.

Wheels of Time N scale 77-ft SP Daylight Chair Car About our N scale passenger car models -
These 1937 Pullman Standard Southern Pacific Daylight Chair Cars (Classes 77-C-2 and 77-C-3) were originally assigned to the Cost Daylight. They were reassigned to other train service when then new 79-C-x class cars came online. Our Wheels of Time models have the accurate 1937 fluting which differs from later Pullman Standard flute construction. Around 1958 to 1962, the Southern Pacific railroad converted these chair cars from steam injected A/C equipment with more the reliable Waukesha propane - electric A/C system. A number of these cars with their original car fluting intact lasted until they were retired from the roster in 1968 - 1971. At least one car graduated to Amtrak - at 34 years old!

WOT item #19700 is a S.P. chair car assigned to the City of San Francisco trains. They were equipped with Outside Swing Hanger Trucks (41-CDO) as required by Union Pacific for their joint train service. Further, they received a different battery box style for this train service.  The model is design to use KATO 41-CDO Outside Swing Hanger truck - clip mount(Kato #800125G). Requires separate purchase of KATO trucks through KATO website.  Special dealers discount applies, not a distributor item.

WOT item #19701 is a S.P. chair cars that operated on the Golden State, Cascade, and later found in other train consist in general service. They were equipped with the triple bolster “Daylight” trucks. The model is design to use KATO SP “Daylight” trucks with couplers - clip mount(Kato #800105). Requires separate purchase of KATO trucks through KATO website. Special dealers discount applies, not a distributor item.

(Please note due to the Kato’s slight design difference between the length of the coupler shank, the CoSF car underframe will not work with KATO’s Daylight trucks; In prototype practices, SP Daylight truck types were barred from operating on UP joint trains.)

Kit requires gluing, painting, adding decals and assembly. The car parts require minor clean up with a toothbrush and Simple Green to eliminate any left over wax used in the SLA build process. Further, we suggest painting the parts for multiple color cars before fitting together which eases paint masking.

Fully built and decorated models can be arranged and purchased by special order. Please email Wheels of Time if you are interested.
