Union Pacific BE-70-1 & Newton's 2nd Law

Here is Union Pacific postal storage - express box car built by St. Louis Car in 1964.  It seems like this UP class BE-70-1 stretches out in the distance.  Noticed the LD LMT (Load Limit) when it's placed in a freight vs. a passenger train.  Ah,  remember your high school physics of Newton's 2nd law of motion?   F = MA.  The Force acting on the object is equal to the Mass (like weight) times the Acceleration of the object.  So an object going at passenger train speeds carry much more force with it than at freight train speeds.  Therefore, a higher load limit is allowed for this express car if it was in a freight train consist.   Enjoy.

Ps. Be sure to reserve your new batch of PC&F box cars with your dealer or direct this Sat!

Preview. . .

Here is a photo of our N-Scale PC&F "Golden West Service" Insulated Box Car.  Notiiced the pre-weathered roof as a nod to realism.  Usually the roof went south before the sides, so we thought we make the roof look oxidized and rusty for this particular box car.  You may preview more of this car as well as other pre-produciton models at the N-Scale Convention in Milwaukee coming this Friday and Saturday.  Be sure to drop by.

Back when Cotton Belt SD45T-2 was leading Amtrak

Back when Sony BetaMax Recorder was selling for $787; President Carter was debating Reagan on ABC; and "Guilty" by Barbara Streisand was on the top of music charts . . . remember?  It's October 1980, I was with my parents in Sacramento taking pictures of Amtrak Coast Starlight No. 11 led by Cotton Belt SD45T-2, and two Amtrak SDP40F units with Southern Pacific heavyweight business car "Oregon" bringing up the markers.  Nice!  Wish I was onboard the SP "Oregon."   Enjoy.
